1982 Peugeot MIRAGE
Image
Le Mirage is currently configured as a roadster

Purchased in very run-down condition, this 58cm Steel Frame was re-built and upgraded from the ground up.

The bike comes from an interesting era in Peugeot’s history. Some see those times around 1982 as marking the beginning of the end of the hugely successful French factory, where declining sales meant that these Carbon Steel frames were offered to save costs.

The advent of better-quality Japanese components and indexed gears (Shimano) also meant that the Simplex-equipped units fell even further behind – on the Tour, the road and the showroom floor.

But even for its vintage, the bike really is very enjoyable to ride. It is different to modern machines. The toe clips and friction shifters mean that you must plan further ahead – but the steel frame is comfortable, forgiving and the geometry is tight, with quick steering and solid cruising.
